An old, obsolete test bench

A leading company in the production of brake pads contacted us at a trade show to revamp their test bench for finished products. It was an old test bench installed in their laboratory, with an electrical panel that took up most of the space and a data acquisition system still running on an obsolete operating system.

The Challenge

Modernizing the brake pad test bench

Modernize the data collection system with updated software capable of exporting test result values in PDF format for charts and in Excel for drafting test reports. Additionally, the client requested that we provide a compact electrical panel to save space and upgrade the entire control section, from the CPU to the panel PC.

The Intervention

Analysis and complete revamping

The client was able to provide us with the entire test bench so that we could study it in detail, better understand its operation and connections, and identify the type and number of sensors installed. After completing the preliminary study phase, Ferrazza replaced the existing sensors with state-of-the-art models that are more efficient and capable of more precise value readings. The electrical panel was completely redesigned and built from scratch, installing a modern CPU and a SCADA system capable of graphing and exporting the recorded values according to the client's specifications. Finally, the motor control devices that moved the various mobile parts within the bench's test chamber were replaced; these are fundamental components without which the client could not have performed any tests on the brake pads they produce.
